St George’s Church, Stockport are hoping to gather 1000 people to sing some well-known hymns, culminating in “O for a thousand tongues” on the afternoon of Saturday 11th May. We are asking people to gather in church between 1pm and 1.50pm and to start singing promptly at 2pm.
There is limited parking at the church which we will be reserving for Blue Badge Holders only. We are advising people to use the Park and Ride facility in Hazel Grove from where they can catch buses (192 & 199) to the venue.
Stockport Grammar School have kindly agreed to allow people to park at the school on Buxton Road after 1pm. Alternatively, Davenport Station is a five-minute walk from St George’s Church (just go out of the station and turn right.)
We are looking for choirs, groups, community singers, competent vocalists, interested individuals or enthusiastic out of tuners to contact their contacts so we can ensure we have 1000 people singing between 2pm and no later than 3.30pm.
We are hoping that this will not only be a time of praise but also an opportunity to raise some much-needed funds.
There is no cost, but there will be buckets for voluntary donations. We would much rather people took part than worried over whether they had a few pounds to spare.
This is an ambitious endeavour, but we know we can do it with your help.
