Choral Scholarships

Building on the success of our Choral Scholarship Scheme for young singers over previous years, St. George’s Church, Stockport is pleased to invite applications for Choral Scholarships in all voice parts.

There are currently four Scholarships available at St. George’s which are generously funded by The Pilling Trust. The Scholarships are intended to provide young people, aged 16-25 and in full time education, with the opportunity to gain experience of singing good quality church music and to improve their general musical skills.

Subject to a successful audition and informal interview with the Director of Music, Choral Scholarships are awarded for a period of 12 months and are reviewed annually.

Scholars will receive an honorarium worth £500 per annum. Currently this is set at £400 for regular weekly attendances, paid in termly instalments, with additional payments of £50 for attendance at services over the Easter weekend and £50 for attendance at our major Christmas services. Further payments are available for weddings and funeral services, as required.

All Choral Scholars are expected to attend Choir rehearsals on Thursdays and Services on Sundays during term time.

Some of our previous Scholars have gone on to perform with distinguished Choirs across the UK, including the Choirs of Truro Cathedral; Norwich Cathedral; Chichester Cathedral; Worcester College, Oxford; Queens’ College, Cambridge and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

If you would like to know more about these opportunities you should contact the Director of Music via email at directorofmusic@stgeorgestockport.org.uk using the subject heading ‘Choral Scholarship information’.
