An August journey of faith at St George’s, Stockport, with St Gabriel’s, Adswood
Faith is not a destination we have already reached. It is a path we travel together—sometimes with confidence, sometimes with questions, but always accompanied by the grace of God.
Throughout August, during the green and growing season of Ordinary Time, the Gospel introduces us to people whose lives are changed by meeting Jesus: a hungry multitude fed in the wilderness; disciples struggling through a storm; a courageous woman refusing to be silenced; Peter declaring who Jesus is; and ordinary people called to take up the cross and follow.
Their encounters become our questions:
What are we truly hungry for?
What are we seeking?
Is it fair?
Who do we say Jesus is?
Who are we becoming?
We gather not because we have mastered faith, but because we need grace. We bring our hunger and hope, our courage and fear, our gifts and questions. Christ meets us along the way—feeding the hungry, reaching through the storm, welcoming the excluded, challenging our assumptions and calling us onwards.
As our season image reminds us, discipleship is never a solitary journey. God gathers people of every age, culture, background and ability into one Christian family. We walk beside one another, learning to recognise the face of God in Christ, in our neighbours and in the world we are called to serve.
Whether you have followed Jesus for many years, are returning after time away, or are simply beginning to explore, there is a place for you here.

Join us at St George’s Church every Sunday throughout August at 10.15am for our All-Age Intergenerational Parish Holy Communion.
Come as you are, bringing your story, your questions and your hopes. After the service, stay and share in our warm hospitality and refreshments—a time to catch up with old friends, make new ones and enjoy belonging to our church family.

About us:
Welcome to the website for The Parish of St George, Stockport with St Gabriel, Adswood.
We are two friendly churches in the parish of St George’s, Heaviley. The parish covers the areas of Heaviley, Davenport and North Bramhall in Stockport.
St George’s was built in 1897 to serve the expanding town of Stockport whilst St Gabriel’s was built in 1936 as a mission church to serve the people on the new estates in Adswood.
This website tells you something about who we are, what we do and when we do it.
We welcome people here from all over the world, so no matter where you’ve come from, we hope you can find a home here – even if it’s just for today.
We know it can be difficult to follow what’s going on in the service today if English isn’t your first language, so don’t worry if you feel a little lost. Even if you can’t understand what’s being said, God is still working in you and through you, just by you being here today.
We may be able to provide you with a service booklet and Holy Bible in your own language – please ask someone if you would like one.

این مراسم حدود یک ساعت طول خواهد کشید و بعد از جلسه با
چای و شیرینی از شما پذیرایی خواهد شد. خوشحال می شویم که
با شما بیشتر آشنا شویم و اگر سؤالی داشته باشید در
خدمتگزاری حاضریم.

Out of Hours Support
The Diocese of Chester partners with thirtyone:eight and you can access their Safeguarding Helpline if the Diocesan Safeguarding Team is unavailable. Thirtyone:eight can be contacted on 0303 003 1111.
This also includes any safeguarding queries outside of office hours on weekdays and weekends. An Information Sharing Agreement between the two organisations will allow the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser to receive a copy of the advice thirtyone:eight may offer the caller.
