Director of Music

Director of Music
St George’s Stockport

(Permanent, Part-time) Salary: £6,558 per annum plus fees

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Director of Music to join us from February 2018. The ideal candidate will have a joy of music and be committed to working with and building on the solid foundations that are already in place. We are seeking someone who can help progress the junior choir as well as the wider musical life of the church.

We have a wide range of services and are looking for someone who will help us maintain and develop our strong choral tradition at CW Communion and BCP Evensong alongside more flexible styles of All Age Worship, healing services and Taize.

A recognised professional qualification would be preferred but is not essential. We are seeking someone with experience and is a competent organist accustomed to working with a wide variety of musical styles.

The monthly service schedule comprises:

  • Sunday: 10.15am CW Communion/All Age Service
  • Sunday: 4pm/6.30pm BCP Evensong/healing service/Taize
  • Other Festival services
  • Thursday Choir practice: Junior 6.30pm-7.30pm; Adult 7.30pm – 9.00pm

Aside from holidays, there is an expectation that the organist will be available for the two Sunday services, choir practice, plus Festival services which will be included in the monthly payment alongside fees from civic and diocesan services, wedding and funerals.

We have keen singers, a good choir library, a regularly tuned grand piano along with a keyboard, auxiliary organ and a large, three manual pipe organ built by Forster and Andrews of Hull with 53 speaking stops.
