Lent, Holy Week and Easter

Lent, Holy Week and Easter at St. George’s

In addition to regular services, there are lots of activities happening at St. George’s during this holy time, as we prepare for the suffering of the cross and the joy of the resurrection at Easter. All are welcome to come to any of the events below- please contact us for more information.

Lent

Wednesdays 11.15am at St. George’s
Lent Bible Study Group

Come along as we explore the book of Galatians together in Lent in informal bible study groups. We will be using the book “Galatians for Everyone” by Tom Wright. Copies are available at St. George’s, priced at £5.00.

Wednesdays 7.30pm in the Stockport area
Ecumenical Services

Explore something of a different spirituality with a series of ecumenical services being held in churches throughout Stockport. Each church will host a service which reflects their tradition and worship style, followed by refreshments and fellowship together. More information can be found in each church.

Saturdays 9.30-10.30pm at St. George’s
Lent Prayer Breakfasts

Throughout Lent, we will be exploring the theme of “the peace of God”- what that means in our lives, and how we might be led to discover it in our hearts. There will be a variety of speakers, including a Quaker, an army chaplain and a nun.

The format of the events is a free continental breakfast, an address and then some short prayers. The breakfasts were very successful last year; all are very welcome to attend.

Holy Week

Maundy Thursday- Passover Seder/agape meal  6.30pm at St. George’s

On Maundy Thursday evening, prior to the 8pm Eucharist at St. George’s, we will be celebrating a Seder/agape meal. This has its roots in the Passover feast of the Jewish people, in the context of which Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. During the meal, we will commemorate the freeing of the Jews from slavery in Egypt, as well as sharing food and fellowship together. It should provide an interesting and insightful context for our Holy Week celebrations. All are welcome to come along to this meaningful event (especially children).
